As an Associate Professor, educational developer, and janice headshotsmDirector of the Institute for SoTL at Mount Royal University in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, I have been involved with conducting and facilitating SoTL projects across the University since 2009.  I have published on a variety of topics related to SoTL in the Canadian Journal of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, Teaching and Learning Inquiry, and New Directions for Teaching and Learning, served as chair of SoTL Canada (a constituency of the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education) and am an Associate Editor of CJSoTL.  I am available for workshops and presentations on Decoding and more generally on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.

Decoding the Disciplines

I have been involved in a faculty learning community which explored and studied the Decoding interview and has supported the use of Decoding for a variety of teaching, curriculum, and pedagogical research initiatives at Mount Royal University.  Our upcoming special issue of NDTL will describe the analyses of three different collections of Decoding interviews, extend the Decoding framework using different theoretical lenses, demonstrate its application in several collaborative SoTL projects, and connect the learning to practical applications for teachers and teacher-scholars in higher education. See publications, below, for some examples, or contact me for more information.
